Anneka (Inglaterra)

Dear Children,

My name is Anneka Shah, I am twenty three years old and I live in Birmingham in England. I am a primary school teacher in England but at the moment I am working at Los Guindos in Malaga. I started working at Los Gunidos in January and will be here until April. I wanted to find out what it is like in a Spanish School. The children are helping me to learn more Spanish and I am finding out lots about the Spanish Culture. If you have any questions about school in Spain or England, or you want to practice your English, just ask and I will be happy to help.

Last week on Thursday the 31st January the school had a big celebration for peace day, this is the schoolś own event. On Peace day the school was decorated with blig posters created by the children from every class, they were very brignt, bold and colourful. The posters had pictures of people and children spending their time peacefully, their was also many pictures of flowers and doves. In the school foyer there was a big rainbow made out of different coloured hand prints, it looked very beautiful. In the centre was a globe with children holding hands in a circle around it. The older chilren made origani doves, parrots and sparrows; they wrote a peace message on the birdś wings and then these were placed on a picture of the sky. These displays and pictures are very inspiring, they made everyone stop, look and think about peace.

At 11 o Clock, all the children gathered outside in the school playground. The celebration began with 10 children giving little speaches about their ideas on peace, all these children were different ages, from 5 - 11. Then the infants got into position ready for their dance. It was very cute, they all held hands and walked around in circles to a special song about peace. After that the older children got into position, I was very excited to see their dance as they had been practicing all week in their music class. The music teacher had been working very hard making sure all the children knew the dance steps to a lovely peace song called ĺa Murrella'. The children from each class stood in a line, and then the music started and they danced brilliantly, even the teachers joined in. Everyone felt the atmosphere and there were lots of smiles. The children participated in lots of different activities to do with peace. The children at Los Gunidos love the celebrations on peace day. I will try and load some photos later so you can see the decorations and the children dancing on peace day.

Would you like to celebrate peace day at your school?
What would you do to celebrate peace?

I will write soon because I have lots to tell you about school in Spain.

Anneka
